Broumana Oasis vegetable garden – July 5, 2021 by Sam Bassil

I had the idea to use an empty plot to grow some vegetables during the pandemic. So, I bought a few seeds and shoots of tomatoes, cucumber, zucchini, carrots, etc. I learned a lot through the process and I used the help of neighbors. It was a great experience and now I am continuing the work. Gardening teaches a lot about life and how to maintain and return life.

I had not intended to tend to my garden since it was taken care by the janitor until recently. I am very excited to start working on my garden and learn through the process and hopefully someday be able to help others.

Modern cities are concrete jungles devoid of greenery. This was unbearable. So we planted.

Small vegetable garden in Baabdath, July 10, 2021 by Leila-Rossa Mouawad

My father and I have planted some summer veggies in our garden like zucchini, cucumbers, mallow, tomatoes and sweet corn. One of my favorite crops to grow are beans. The way these plants climb up defying gravity and any other thing trying to hold them down, in order to reach the sun is very inspiring to me.
Plus all legumes belong to the family ‘Fabaceae’ and they need absolutely no fertilization. Instead, they capture Nitrogen from the air and fix it in the ground, thus enriching the soil for other species to benefit from. Beans can also be grown in any season.
In one of the pictures you can see the rows of beans we have planted around a pine tree where we used bamboo to support the plants and make a roof that will soon be shaded by the leaves to allow easier harvest of the seed pods.
If you have never grown beans, I encourage you to start sowing your seeds and you’ll definitely enjoy the process!

During the Quarantine, I decided to start my own garden. I started by planting Tomatoes, Strawberries, Pepper, etc. It was a one of a kind experience and taught me a lot. Gardening teaches you how to behave with a living organism.
